40 Years Later, and the Stupid Lingers On….

Forty years ago today, Neil Armstrong made his historic ‘one small step’ onto the surface of the Moon, and yet as this article shows, there’s still a hardcore group that refuses to accept this, no matter what evidence gets thrown at them, chief among them Bart Sibrel:

In an interview, Mr. Sibrel said that his efforts to prove that men never walked on the Moon has cost him dearly. “I have suffered only persecution and financial loss,” he said. “I’ve lost visitation with my son. I’ve been expelled from churches. All because I believe the Moon landings are fraudulent.”

Let’s not forget one other thing, Bart old boy – let’s look at the video and see what happened when you went to the trouble of stalking Buzz Aldrin:

I love that video – it truly demonstrates our fellow ‘klogger Doug’s favourite maxim – ’stupid should hurt’….

But to show it’s not just limited to this side of the Atlantic, we have the Daily Telegraph with an article entitled 10 Reasons The Moon Landings Were ‘Faked” or, as I like to think of it, 10 Reasons The Science and Technology Reporter at the Telegraph Needs His Ass Kicked’ – apparently it was too much trouble for them to actually check on the validity of these reasons – it’s not like there’s websites you can check, after all.

UPDATE: Just saw this announcement from NASA – apparently the LRO Satellite has beamed back the first images of the Apollo landing sites, and NASA will be releasing them tomorrow – how much do you want to bet this still won’t convince the Hoax Believers?

FURTHER UPDATE: If I gave anyone the impression that I was saying the actual moon landing took place on July 16th, 1969, that is of course incorrect – the launch took place then, the actual landing didn’t happen until July 19th.

I’ve seen the photos. They are very cool, but they certainly won’t convince the True Believers. Or True DisBelievers. I’m not sure what to call moon-deniers, honestly. Moonbats is taken.

Well, Bautforums.com uses the term HBers (Hoax Believers) – but how about Lunatics? I’ll agree with you, the photos are very cool, but I doubt they’ll really do much for the vast majority of the Lunatics – certainly Bart Sibrel won’t back down on his claims, since that would mean he’d lose the income he gets from selling his movies and books. Still, it may help those on the fence – check out Apollohoax.net sometimes, the site’s owner started off believing it was a hoax, but was convinced otherwise.

… The first step for man, etc., took place on the 20th, after the landing on the 19th. Day after my 2nd birfday.:)

FYI: http://wechoosethemoon.org/# is runninng the audio from Apollo 11 in real time – interesting to hear the exchanges from the Eagle and Capcom! It will be available after July 20 to browse at your own pace – check it out!

Thanks for the link, Flash – cool site (if a bit Flash-heavy). BTW, for a really good chuckle, check out the Hare Krishnas’ take on it: http://krishna.org/man-on-the-moon-a-colossal-hoax-that-cost-billions-of-dollars/

I particularly like this paragraph –

“The Vedic account of our planetary system is already researched, concluded, and perfect. The Vedas state that the moon is 800,000 miles farther from the earth than the sun. Therefore, even if we accept the modern calculation of 93 million miles as the distance from the earth to the sun, how could the “astronauts” have traveled to the moon–a distance of almost 94 million miles–in only 91 hours (the alleged elapsed time of the Apollo 11 moon trip)? This would require an average speed of more than one million miles per hour for the spacecraft, a patently impossible feat by even the space scientists’ calculations.”

  6. Flash Says:

Is it ever a bad thing to be Flash-heavy?:)

I wonder how the Krishnas explain solar eclipses when the moon is “800,000 miles farther from the Earth than the Sun”? Oops this does not compute in their researched, concluded and perfect little solar system.
