Give Me a Break…

brucex26Bruce MacKinnon’s cartoon from today’s Chronicle-Herald. I’ve seen funnier. It’s starting to piss me off a bit that Atheism is not taken seriously. I know, I need to lighten up…

  1. Don’t be flame baited by the Chronicle Herald. They are keeping this thing alive to support the limping sales of their “news’-paper. Ol’ Bruce should draw a similar bus that reads: ‘There probably is no market for print journalism, but you can still be employed anyway’. The destination for the bus could read: ‘Irrelevance’.

  2. I wouldn’t be so quick to condemn local journalism, even if it gets a little silly sometimes. The Coast does a great job covering the local scene, but I can’t see how it can possibly expand beyond a weekly with their current business model. Maybe Tim could comment on this?

Have you read the Metro? If that’s the future of local journalism in Halifax, we are well and truly fucked. If it takes a little silliness like this to sell a few papers, “on, on” I say.

  3. I feel the same way about print journalism as I do about pundits: that is, why do I need a ‘representative’ voice when I can go online to see the actual voices and POVs? Of course, we still need Reuters over ‘Joe the plumber/journalist’, but for local issues, I’ll take Flash’s perspective over David Rodenizer’s any day of the week.
I don’t know if I agree 100% with your opinion of the Coast – but I will say that their willingness to use a more diverse group of writers and sources do make it a more interesting read.
